Latest SEC QB rankings just did Gunner Stockton absolutely dirty

Gunner Stockton deserves more respect than this.

Hope is high for Georgia football entering the 2025 football season. That will always be the case every season, no matter what the team is looking like heading into the season.
But just like with every other year, there will be a few things that Georgia fans will be worried about heading into the season. One of those things this year is the uncertainty of the quarterback position.
Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi are battling it out this offseason to see who will become the starter this fall, but in all likelihood the starting QB week one will be Stockton. He does have a little experience under his belt as he took over for an injured Carson Beck at the end of last season, but Stockton will still be viewed as a first time starter in 2025.
That will always cast some doubt no matter how good people think Stockton will end up being, but 247Sports’ Brad Crawford is especially doubtful of Stockton heading into the season.
Gunner Stockton falls in bottom half of updated SEC QB rankings
According to Crawford’s SEC QB rankings, Stockton is the No. 12 quarterback out of the 16 projected starting QBs in the SEC.
No Georgia fan will argue at this point that Stockton should be at the top of the list, but being this low doesn’t make a lot of sense. And you only have to look one spot above Stockton to see why this ranking is incorrect.
Coming in at No. 11 is Texas A&M quarterbak Marcel Reed. Reed had a solid season last year, but he didn’t do anything overly impressive that guarantees he will be better than Stockton. But Stockton and Reed do have one common opponent, and that is the Texas Longhorns.
Stockton shined against the Longhorns in the second half of the SEC Championship game as he helped lead Georgia to a comeback victory. Reed on the other hand didn’t even score one point on offense against Texas when they faced off with a trip to the SEC Championship game on the line. The Aggies lost that game 17-7, with the Aggies one score coming from a defensive touchdown.
So while Stockton has some work to do before anyone should rank him near the top of this list, being ranked No. 12 doesn’t make much sense. And it likely will be only a few weeks into the 2025 season before Stockton begins shooting up these rankings.
