As former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders started slipping in the 2025 NFL Draft, President Donald Trump sent out a post on social media in an effort to end the slide.

Trump posted on Truth Social the Friday of the draft that Shedeur Sanders was set for “greatness” and should be “picked immediately by a team that wants to win.”

The post didn’t work out well for Shedeur Sanders as he wasn’t picked in the second or third round on Friday and slipped all the way to the fifth round Saturday. However, it was still a cool moment, according to Shilo Sanders — Shedeur’s brother.

“I’m not even going to lie, that was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, bro,” Shilo Sanders said on the One Night with Steiny podcast. “If you’ve got the president tweeting, bro, you know something’s wrong. W Trump, W Trump.”

Even though it still took a while for Shedeur Sanders to get selected after Trump’s post, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt believes Sanders might have slipped even further had Trump not spoken up.

“All I will say is the president put out a statement and a few rounds later he was drafted, so I think the facts speak for themselves on that one,” she responded the Monday after the draft.

Despite Sanders finally coming off the board in the fifth round, it was still an incredibly disappointing draft for the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders completed 74 percent of his passes in 2024, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, while being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Still, quarterbacks Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel were drafted ahead of him.

Gabriel, who played college football at UCF, Oklahoma and Oregon, was also drafted by the Browns in this year’s NFL Draft and will be competing with Sanders for the starting quarterback job.

Other Browns quarterbacks include Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.
